Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers

1. Is YALP a crisis hotline or mental health provider?

No. We are not trained mental health professionals and do not provide clinical advice or crisis intervention. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7.

2. Who qualifies for support from You Are Loved Project?

We offer support specifically for school-aged children who have lost a parent. Our grants help cover the cost of extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, and art programs that promote healing and connection.

3. Do you only help families in Iowa?

Currently, our focus is on Pottawattamie County and the surrounding area. As we grow, we hope to expand support to more communities, but our primary mission is to serve local families first.

4. Can I refer a family even if I’m not related to them?

Yes! Anyone, teachers, friends, coaches, counselors, can nominate a family for assistance using our referral form. We just ask for accurate contact information and a brief explanation of the need.

5. How much financial assistance do families receive?

We currently offer up to $1,000 per family, intended to cover extra-curricular costs for children who have lost a parent. Every nomination is reviewed individually to ensure the greatest impact.

6. Do you offer support for other types of loss or hardship?

At this time, our funding is specifically for children who have lost a parent. While we recognize that all loss is painful, our mission is focused on this unique and deeply impactful type of grief.

7. Do you have a physical storefront I can visit?

No, we do not operate a storefront. However, our YOU ARE LOVED Store offers merchandise for purchase online or at our events to help spread our message and fundraise for families in need.

8. What kinds of events do you host?

Our biggest annual event is a September Corn Hole Tournament, which raises funds to support local families. We also participate in community awareness events and speaking engagements throughout the year.

9. How can I get involved or volunteer?

We love volunteers! Whether you want to help at an event, share your story, or organize a fundraiser, visit our Donate page or reach out to us through our Contact form.

10. Where does my donation go?

100% of your donation goes directly toward helping children who have lost a parent, through financial grants, event programming, and spreading mental health awareness. We’re committed to full transparency and heartfelt impact.
